This is where we keep track of real changes to the service: closures for works, timetable changes, fare decisions and construction on the extensions. Every entry carries the period it refers to and a link to the source, so you can check for yourself. This is not a press review: we only publish what actually changes something for people using the metro, and we explain what changes. For service status right now, the reference is still the ATM app.

Cross-city railway closed on the urban section
The Passante is cut between Milano Rogoredo and Milano Certosa/Bovisa: the stations of Lancetti, Porta Garibaldi, Repubblica, Porta Venezia, Dateo and Porta Vittoria are out of service, and the S1, S5, S6 and S13 lines are altered. What it means for you: if you were relying on the Passante to cross the city, use the metro instead in this period — the M2 and M3 cover much of the same corridor.

M2: the Cologno Monzese branch is suspended
No trains between Cascina Gobba and Cologno Nord for major maintenance on the viaducts: Cologno Sud, Cologno Centro and Cologno Nord are closed. ATM is running replacement bus BM2 between Cascina Gobba and Cologno Nord. What it means for you: coming from Cologno, allow a few extra minutes and change at Cascina Gobba for the M2.

M2 closed between Cadorna and Garibaldi: Lanza and Moscova are shut
ATM is replacing the track on the green line's central section. There is no service in either direction between Cadorna FN and Garibaldi FS, and the stations of Lanza and Moscova are closed for the whole period. Trains from Gessate and Cologno terminate at Garibaldi FS (change there for the M5); trains from Abbiategrasso and Assago terminate at Cadorna FN (change there for the M1). What it means for you: for Brera and the Piccolo Teatro, instead of Lanza take tram 2, 4, 12 or 14, or get off at Cairoli on the M1 and walk.

Summer timetable: Saturday service on weekdays
As every summer, ATM thins out the service. The dates are staggered: surface routes from 27 June, M1, M2 and M3 from 4 July, M4 and M5 from 3 August. In the middle weeks of August the Saturday timetable applies from Monday to Friday too: from 3 to 21 August on M1, M3, M4 and M5, and from 1 to 30 August on the M2, which is also affected by engineering works. Everything returns to normal from 7 September. What it means for you: trains are running, but less often — allow a few extra minutes of waiting.

Crescenzago closed for accessibility works
The station of Crescenzago is closed and M2 trains do not stop there: preliminary work is under way for a new lift and for tactile guidance paths for visually impaired passengers. What it means for you: get off at Cimiano or Cascina Gobba instead. It is a few months of disruption for a station that will be accessible when it reopens.

€654 million unlocked for extensions: the M5 to Monza moves into delivery
The State-Regions Conference approved the interministerial decree releasing more than €654 million for the expansion of the Milan network. The largest share, €576 million, goes to extending the lilac line from Bignami to Monza: 11 new stations through Sesto San Giovanni and Cinisello Balsamo. The funds cover the cost overruns built up over the years through rises in raw material and energy prices. What it means: the project moves from paper to construction, but the timescale is long — this is the next decade, not next year.

ATM fares are not going up in 2026
The city ticket and the season passes stay at their current prices: the city council has confirmed there will be no fare rise in 2026, even though the cost of local public transport has passed the one-billion-euro mark. What it means for you: nothing, and that is good news. Current prices are always on our tickets and fares page.

M1 towards Baggio: three new stations, due for completion in 2032
Surface works have begun on the red line's western extension: 3.3 km of new alignment and three stations — Parri-Valsesia, Baggio and Olmi. The estimated duration is around six and a half years, with completion expected in 2032. The same contractor will also build the M1's northern extension, from Sesto FS to Cinisello Bettola, with stations at Sesto Restellone and Cinisello Bettola. What it means for you: nothing for the service yet, but there are worksites and altered road layouts in the neighbourhoods concerned.
