How the ATM fare works
In the Mi1–Mi3 urban area (Milan city and the surrounding municipalities), the metro has a flat fare: each trip costs €2.20 with an urban ticket, regardless of distance. The ticket is valid for 90 minutes and includes one metro ride plus unlimited transfers on buses and trams within that time frame. With contactless payment (CleSS — card, smartphone, or smartwatch), you pay €2.20 per trip by tapping upon entry and exit, and the total charge for that device never exceeds €7.60 per day. For municipalities outside the city, the fare is zone-based according to the STIBM integrated system (Mi1…Mi9), with a small surcharge for each additional zone.
