Gioia — overview

Gioia station — Milan metro

Gioia entered service on 12 July 1971 with the section from Centrale FS to Garibaldi FS. It is an underground through station with two tracks in separate tunnels and an island platform. The Naviglio della Martesana flows in a culvert beneath via Melchiorre Gioia: the canal is still there, simply covered over. At street level this is the district of the Porta Nuova towers and the Pirellone.
