Villa San Giovanni — overview
Villa San Giovanni belongs to the very first stretch of the Milan metro, opened on 1 November 1964 between Sesto Marelli and Lotto — the first underground line ever to run in Lombardy. In the early drawings the stop carried a different name, changed before opening. It serves a residential district in the north-east of the city, has a bar and toilets inside, and in the spring and summer of 1982 it briefly acted as a temporary terminus alongside Gorla, after an arson attack destroyed the Sesto Marelli terminal.
